There are no known cures for colds, so you thought! Well read on and I will tell you that there is a cure for colds.
Here are some strategies that might help you lower your chances of getting a cold:
1. Practice good hygiene
– Wash your hands – Cold viruses are mostly spread by direct contact. Someone who has the cold may sneeze onto their hands and then touches the doorknob, the telephone, the table. The virus can live for hours and some even weeks, and then it would be picked up by the next person who touches it. Bacteria and viruses enter the body through the skin or mucous membranes, so frequent and correct hand washing procedures are essential. If water and soap is not available, use alcohol-based gel sanitizers.
– Don’t cover your sneezes and coughs with your hands – Germs and viruses cling to your bare hands, so muffling sneezes and coughs will just transfer the germs to others. Instead, use a tissue and then throw it away immediately.
– Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth – Cold viruses enter our body through the permeable mucous membranes.
– Keep towels separate – Each member of the family and house guests must have a separate towel. Viral germs live in cloth towels for hours. Use paper towels instead of cloth towels.
2. Avoid contact with people who have the cold – Have sick people sleep in a separate bedroom. This may be the best means for preventing the transfer of the cold virus.
3. Eat nutritious foods and be as healthy as you can
– Drink lots of water – Water is essential to good health. It rehydrates our body and at the same time flushes toxins out of our body. You are not getting enough water if your urine is very yellow in color. It should be almost clear light yellow.
– Organic fruits and vegetables – Organic fruits and vegetables are an important part of keeping your body at its optimum. It contains healing chemicals that help your body use the vitamins contained in them.
– Eat yogurt – Studies show that eating a cup of low-fat yogurt daily can reduce your chances of catching cold by 25 percent.
– Get enough sleep and rest – You should get enough sleep at night, at least 8 to 10 hours, and get enough rest during the day. Your immune system will function better to fight off the viruses if you have sufficient rest.
– Exercise regularly – Exercise enhances the immune system that can help prevent illness. Don’t overdo exercise though, as too much strenuous or excessive exercise can leave you prone to illness.
– Avoid Smoking – Or quit if you are already smoking. Smoke irritates the airways and profoundly zaps the immune system which can lead to increased vulnerability to colds.
4. Take lots of Vitamin C everyday. From my own experience, mega doses of vitamin C has helped me avoid the severity of colds. I take at least 2,000 milligrams of vitamin C a day. In my family, when a cold has set in, we take 1,000 milligrams of Vitamin every hour while awake. It helps get rid of it fast, like within 24-48 hours.
It is possible to entirely avoid catching cold, and having a healthy lifestyle and practicing good hygiene are key factors on how to avoid a cold.
